DoorKing Telephone Entry Installation Project Planning

Article 000002141 · Updated Nov 27, 2023

DOORKING TELEPHONE ENTRY INSTALLATION PROJECT PLANNING

The Doorking telephone entry unit needs to be installed by a qualified professional familiar with these systems.  The connection they make to FRONTSTEPS Dwelling is only to receive data (and updates) containing resident names and telephone numbers.

QUESTIONS FOR THE COMMUNITY

CLARIFICATIONS ON WHY TO ASK THESE QUESTIONS

Are severe temperatures and weather common in the area?

This will affect hardware performance and durability. See Manufacturer specifications for more information.

Will the project be using Kantech Telephone Entry units (KTES model) or Doorking (DKS 1834/1835/1837 models)?

The setup process is different for each system; Kantech will not be covered in this field guide.

How will the Doorking unit be purchased?

FRONTSTEPS does not currently sell Doorking telephone entry units. This hardware must be purchased from a licensed vendor.

Do visitor passes need to be used at the same gate?

A scan kiosk that works independently of the telephone entry unit can be installed at the same gate to allow the use of passes.

How many directory entries (residents and telephone numbers) will be needed?

  • FRONTSTEPS Dwelling residents can have up to two directory entries per property.

  • Memory size must match the memory size of the chips installed in the entry panel (default is 3000).

  • If more than 999 entries are needed in the directory, the directory code (unique number given to each entry) needs to be 4 digits long (the maximum). The maximum directory size is 3000 names/numbers.

Is there stable power and internet already installed at the gate?

  • FRONTSTEPS Dwelling can function locally without network connection to the web server for a time and will upload all visitor data processed during that period without a connection once a connection has been restored. Stable power is needed for most Visitor Management Hardware.

  • Multiple devices on the same network as FRONTSTEPS Dwelling Visitor Management hardware will affect performance (e.g., CCTV IP Cameras on the same network as that hardware). Both download/upload performance/reliability and internal local network performance/reliability will affect the performance of FRONTSTEPS Dwelling Hardware. Consult the Communities ISP and network administration for more information.
