ACCESS DEVICES

FRONTSTEPS Dwelling supports two standards: Standard 26-bit Weigand devices and standard 37-bit Weigand devices. These two standards are specific number formats that FRONTSTEPS Dwelling is set up to process.

Weigand devices can range from barcode stickers on Vehicles (the stickers are read by optical barcode readers that send a Weigand number to the gate controller) to RFID devices (which can be affixed to windshields or headlights). The device only needs to interact with a reader that can provide a Weigand output and have the correct number format.

RFID access credentials must be procured through FRONTSTEPS or an authorized dealer. We do not support RFID credentials procured through any third, non-dealer party, and we can make no guarantee that our system will accept or read them correctly.

Devices numbers can only be added to the FRONTSTEPS Dwelling database if they follow those formats. If the number detected by a reader doesn’t match any device numbers in the database, the gate controller will not allow access. Ideally the reader provides those numbers as an output to the controller (and that number exists as a correctly set device). The controller will then make decisions based on the settings for that device.

Currently, access device numbers can be imported in bulk using a dealer account or added manually on a device-by-device basis. Devices will need to be added to the FRONTSTEPS Dwelling portal, have a valid access level attached to it and the number once received by the reader will need to be correctly transmitted to the controller for those devices to work. Common issues with reader wiring (a short, incorrect voltage etc.) can cause the number to be sent incorrectly to the gate controller.
